Weatherline
Weatherline,
an applied meteorology course, was developed in response to student
interest and increased requirements for graduating high school seniors.
Approved by the Virginia Department of Education for credit as a science
elective, Weatherline is evolving into a web-based curriculum that
can be offered to high school students anywhere who are motivated
in science and interested in learning meteorology, a science readily
observable in the field. The course brings together many areas of
science, connects students to the resources used by weather services
and provides real-time discussions and analysis of current weather
conditions.
Students enrolled
in applied meteorology study basic atmospheric structure and processes,
and apply that knowledge in producing weather forecasts and solving
weather-related problems. Students use Internet resources to gather
data and participate in real-time discussions with National Weather
Service forecasters.
