Virtual
Jamestown
As the 400-year
anniversary of the 1607 Jamestown settlement approaches, Virtual Jamestown
offers a high tech way to bring the historical events of that area
to life. The site covers all the facets of the "Virginia Experience"
and provides information and strategies for research, teaching and
learning.
Students examine
the habitat presented to the colonists upon their arrival to Jamestown.
They are faced with various problems to consider, and the site provides
them with actual documents, laws, papers, maps and artifacts of the
era as resources. The challenges and problems that exploration and
colonization present are examined. The historical events of Jamestown
are displayed in such a way that students can compare them with other
global historical events occuring at approximately the same time.
Students learn the patterns of colonization in the early 17th century
and compare them to contemporary relationships among governments.
