World Applications Richard Swartz is the president and chief executive officer of ETS Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Educational Testing Service specializing in the development of innovative technologies designed to improve learning and assessment. In this role, Rich has helped to establish ETS Technologies' position as an industry leader in applying sophisticated technology to learning and assessment, bringing to market a range of automated essay and short-answer scoring technologies. These technologies are now being used in a wide array of online learning and assessment products. In previous positions with ETS, Rich has been a product and business developer with Educational Testing Service, focusing on the development of technology-based products related to various forms of performance assessment. Rich has directed programs in educational research and student assessment, including job analysis, program evaluation, and validity and standard-setting studies. He also developed performance assessment programs and provided consulting and staff development services to school districts and state departments of education. Prior to coming to ETS, Rich served as Senior Editor for the GED Testing Service at the American Council on Education. At GEDTS, Rich was responsible for GEDs first direct writing measure, which is internationally administered and scored. Rich is a former college writing teacher and is the author of several writing textbooks. He holds a Master's Degree in creative writing from Johns Hopkins University. |
