Unit 10 Overview

Unit 11 begins coverage of what is perhaps the most important topic in meteorology for most people: the study of convective storms. In this unit we will start with a basic look at the conditions necessary for thunderstorm development, and, if they are present, the lifecycle stages of a typical storm.

The second portion of the unit deals with the hazards associated with thunderstorms, including lightning, flash-flooding, hail, and downbursts. We will take a separate look at tornadoes in Unit 11c. Each hazard is covered in some detail, including the processes involved in their formation, and basic safety rules for staying out of harm's way.
