Unit 3 Objectives & Applications

 

Below are some guidelines on what you should know from this unit on air pressure and winds.

 

Objective 1: Identify the forces involved in producing wind and influencing its direction.

 

Objective 2: Describe the forces involved in producing a clockwise & outward circulation around a high pressure center.

 

Objective 3: Identify the forces involved in producing a counter-clockwise & inward flow around a center of low pressure.

 

Objective 4: Determine the location and type of pressure center on a surface map using wind barbs...

...such as highs,

...and lows.

...and locate them on actual surface maps such as the sample below.

 

 

Objective 5: Evaluate the weather conditions associated with areas of high pressure and areas of low pressure.
